Values
We are Built/With Fitness.
And we want you.
We bring CrossFit methodology of fitness and nutrition to every athlete, every day. Our vision is to show the masses how they can achieve the reality of elite levels of fitness through a positive training experience.
We believe fitness is for everyone.
It’s a community.
CrossFit is scalable and adapted to every individual’s skill and ability level. It’s an inclusive community, and when we say community, we mean it. Our members are our most valuable asset and we strive to foster a nurturing, caring environment.
We’re not your typical gym.
We’re a functional fitness facility.
Built/With Fitness strives to break away from the current flawed fitness models we see – you won’t find any mirrors, fancy machines, or a juice bar here. What you will find are the tools needed to build elite levels of fitness. In most gyms, these tools are relegated to dark, dusty corners, but at Built/With Fitness, barbells, dumbbells, rowers, kettlebells, wall balls, rings, pull-up bars and other “basic” and “old school” fitness implements are cherished above all else.
You are the secret to our success.
And we’re here to support you.
Of course, the greatest key to your success is you. Achieving elite levels of fitness is a process that takes time, determination, and the watchful eye of our dedicated staff of coaches. Whatever your fitness level is today and whatever your fitness goals may be, we are there to help and guide you every step of the way.
As with any endeavor you may choose to participate in, having fun is the glue that holds it all together. CrossFit has no peer in the ability to foster a sense of accomplishment and team-building amongst its participants.
Culture
At Built/With, we believe fitness is for everyone and our approach is scalable to every skill and ability level. From Special Forces to expecting mothers, college athletes to business execs, and grandparents to grandkids, we deliver a training experience that rewires the mind in a nurturing environment where fitness enthusiasts of all ages are welcome.

Built/With Fitness Founders
Dale Ryan Thompson
Meet Dale Ryan, a fitness professional who’s been in the game for 20 years and still has all his hair (unlike most Crossfitters). As a co-owner and co-founder of three successful CrossFit gyms, CrossFit BWI, CrossFit Annapolis, and 12 Labours CrossFit, Dale Ryan has played a key role in the growth and development of these thriving fitness communities and also the development of new and creative ways to use a foam roller.
As a programmer and coach, DRT has worked with multiple individual regional and games athletes, and was the programmer and coach for the 12 Labours CrossFit Games team from 2014-2018. The team cumulated with a 2nd place finish in 2016, which is pretty impressive considering how much time they spent doing burpee penalties.
DRT has also worked with pro athletes, helping them reach their peak performance and achieve their goals. And if you think pro athletes are tough, you should see DRT working with someone who’s never touched a barbell before. They’re like a pro-wrestler trying to tame a lion.
With DRT as your coach, you can trust that you are in good hands, whether you’re a pro athlete or just starting your fitness journey. And even if you’re not, you’ll still be in good hands, because DRT] has a firm handshake and a great sense of humor.

If you’ve already been doing CrossFit/functional training workouts and become pregnant, check with your doctor first. Our heart rate-based monitored training is a perfect way to keep an eye on your intensity as you progress through your pregnancy. If you are a few months into your pregnancy and haven’t been doing any sort of fitness training, wait until after you have your baby and we can help get you back into shape
Some of the movements can be complex, and like anything new, will take time to master. We will start you working with the basics, learning the proper form. Slowly ramping up the intensity as your body adjusts to these new movements and weights. You will be surprised how fast you go from doing modified variations of the exercises to fully prescribe. It’s an exciting goal and accomplishment, as any CrossFitter will attest to!
We hear this used more as an excuse to get out of coming more than anything else! If you can walk and move, you are ready to come to CrossFit. We will tailor and adjust each and every workout to your current fitness abilities. We want this to be a life-long endeavor for you and will strive to make this fun, accomplishable, and safe.
CrossFit is a core strength and conditioning program in two distinct senses. First, we are a core strength and conditioning program in the sense that the fitness we develop is foundational to all other athletic needs. This is the same sense in which the university courses required of a particular major are called the “core curriculum.” This is the stuff that everyone needs. Second, we are a core strength and conditioning program in the literal sense meaning the center of something. Much of our work focuses on the major functional axis of the human body, the extension and flexion, of the hips and extension, flexion, and rotation of the torso or trunk. The primacy of core strength and conditioning in this sense is supported by the simple observation that powerful hip extension alone is necessary and nearly sufficient for elite athletic performance. That is, our experience has been that noe on without the capacity for powerful hip extension enjoys great athletic prowess and nearly everyone we’ve met with that capacity was a great athlete. Running, jumping, punching, and throwing all originate at the core. At Built/With, we endeavor to develop our athletes from the inside out, from core to extremity, which is how good functional movements recruit muscle, from the core to extremity.
You’re in luck. We hear this often, but the truth is that fitness, wellbeing, and pathology (sickness), are measures of the same entity – your health. There are a multitude of measurable parameters that can be ordered from sick to well to fit. These include blood pressure, cholesterol, heart rate, body fat, muscle mass, flexibility, and strength. It seems as though all of the body functions that can go awry have states that are pathological, normal, and exceptional and that elite athletes typically show these parameters in the exceptional range. The CrossFit view is that fitness and health are the same thing. It is also interesting to notice that the health professional maintains your health with drugs and surgery, each with potentially undesirable side effects, whereas the CrossFit coach typically achieves superior results always with the “side benefit” vs. side effect.
Biking, running, swimming, and rowing in an endless variety of drills. The clean & jerk, snatch, squat, deadlift, push-press, bench-press, power-clean, jumping, medicine ball throws and catches, pull-ups, dips, push-ups, handstands, presses to handstands, pirouettes, kips cartwheels, muscle-ups, sit-ups scales, and holds. We make regular use of bikes, the track, rowing shells and ergometers, Olympic weight sets, rings, parallel bars, free exercise mat, horizontal bar, plyometrics boxes, medicine balls, and jump rope. There isn’t a strength and conditioning program anywhere that works with greater diversity of tools, modalites, and drills.
